# Hermes Agent playbooks

Hermes Agent is an open-source, MIT-licensed agent from Nous Research. It runs in a terminal or desktop app, and a gateway lets you reach it from Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal and email. It keeps memory across sessions and writes its own skills from tasks it has done.

- Vendor: Nous Research
- Kind: personal-agent
- Surfaces: terminal, desktop, self-hosted, slack
- Connects: Add MCP servers under mcp_servers in ~/.hermes/config.yaml or with hermes mcp add, over stdio or HTTP with OAuth. You can filter which tools each server exposes. A browser toolset handles navigation, snapshots and vision.

## Good at

- Remembering you across sessions, with search over past conversations
- Turning finished tasks into reusable skills in the agentskills.io format
- Scheduled jobs and subagents that run work in parallel
- Running commands locally or in Docker, over SSH or in cloud sandboxes such as Modal and Daytona

## Limits

- The default terminal backend is local, so commands run on your own machine unless you pick another backend
- Some built-in tools, such as the hosted browser, come bundled with an optional paid Nous Portal plan or need your own keys
- Antivirus tools on Windows may flag a bundled installer file, which the project calls a false positive
