# Agents stall at logins and one-time codes, so you must be there to sign in

- Agents: ChatGPT agent, Claude in Chrome, Custom agent
- Updated: 2026-10-13

## Problem

Account tasks such as cancelling a subscription or changing a bill sit behind a login, and the provider often sends a one-time code by text or email in the middle of the task. The agent cannot finish without you. If you are away, the task stops or times out, and the work so far is lost.

## Symptoms

- The agent reaches a sign-in page and waits, or asks you to take over.
- A provider sends a text code mid-chat or mid-call and the agent cannot continue.
- A task you started and left alone is still unfinished hours later.

## Cause

Providers require the account holder to sign in and confirm billing changes, and they send verification codes to your phone or email, which the agent cannot read. Good agents are also told not to type passwords or codes for you.

## Fix

Plan the session so you are present. Sign in yourself at the start, keep your phone nearby for codes, and tell the agent to stop and hand over whenever it meets a login, a code or a final confirm button. Batch several accounts into one sitting so you sign in once per site. If you use a password manager integration, let it fill the login rather than pasting passwords into the chat.

It later collected the details it needed in a questionnaire up front.
